The basics

What is applique embroidery digitizing?

Applique embroidery attaches pieces of fabric to a garment and seals the edges with stitches. It fills large areas fast, because the fabric covers the space instead of thousands of stitches.

The machine sews in clear steps. First it stitches a placement line, so you know where to lay the fabric. Next it stitches a tack down to hold the piece. Last it sews a satin border that covers the raw edge.

Each step needs a correct file. A digitizer sets the shapes, the order and the border width. Applique works well for team names, big letters, mascots and youth wear. It saves stitches and gives a soft, textured look.

What is applique embroidery?

Applique embroidery sews pieces of fabric onto a garment and seals the edges with satin stitches. It covers large areas with fewer stitches.

Which designs suit applique?

Large letters, numbers, mascots and bold shapes work best. Very small details are better stitched than appliqued.

Do I need a special file for applique?

Yes. The file must include a placement stitch, a tack down stitch and a satin border. A normal logo file does not include these steps.

Which fabrics can I use for applique?

Felt and twill are common. Pick a fabric that does not fray badly, and tell us your choice so we set the border width.

How much does applique digitizing cost?

Flat-rate designs run from $10 to $50 based on size. Stitch-based pricing is $1.50 per 1,000 stitches. Send your artwork for an exact quote.

Which file formats do you provide?

We provide DST, PES, JEF, EXP, EMB, VP3 and more. Tell us your machine model and we match the format.
